LISTED BARN CONVERSION
Bledlow, Buckinghamshire
PROJECT BRIEF
To restore and convert a dilapidated listed barn building into a functionable space with amenities and services. The listed building status meant that traditional building methods were used and the barn should be conserved to suit the surrounding buildings.
WHAT
Listed barn conversion
WHERE
Bledlow, Buckinghamshire
DURATION
18 weeks
ARCHITECT
The Build
Stage 1 of the project was to restore the barn’s framework to structural soundness. External scaffolding was erected and all roof tiles and battening were removed to permit the necessary repairs and replacements to decayed structural timbers. The tiles could then be re-laid on new battens with rooflights providing light and ventilation. Glazed doors were also installed but with boarded outer doors to maintain the original appearance.
Where the antique brickwork was not to be a feature, walls were lined with insulation and a plastered finish. Plaster finished partitions divided the interior as required.
Power and mains water were added and kitchen facilities and furniture installed to create a versatile indoor space with amenities.
THE RESULT
This listed barn conversion has transformed what was once a disused and dilapidated barn building into a charming useable space. Retaining it's original features and character the listed barn building has a new lease of life for many more years to come.
