NEW BUILD COTTAGE OXFORDSHIRE

NEW BUILD COTTAGE
Chinnor, Oxfordshire

PROJECT BRIEF

To construct a new build cottage on an area of land in Oxfordshire which at the time contained an existing derelict barn.

Set within a conservation area the project design had to be sympathetic to surrounding buildings. The new build cottage required a suitable standard of construction as the property would subsequently be leased by the client.

The Build

Due to the remote Oxfordshire location, access to the project site was limited so a new access drive was agreed with the local authority and they approved a junction with the road.

Before the build could commence the derelict barn had to be demolished on site. Following an asbestos survey, it was discovered that there were asbestos cement sheets within the derelict barn and so professional asbestos removal was arranged and carried out.

Being environmentally aware and as part of the project design a Klargester biodisc (sewage disposal) was carefully positioned to ensure the soakaway of processed foul water worked effectively in the marshy ground.

Renewable energy systems were an important factor of this project. A rainwater harvesting system was installed during the construction phase as well as an Air Source Heat Pump.

THE RESULT

This unique Design & Build project boasts a modern and contemporary finish, whilst also being environmentally aware. The new build cottage was constructed to timescales and was under budget. This wonderful cottage resides in a beautiful remote Oxfordshire location ready for our client to lease.

Client Testimonial

“I have worked with Saunders Brothers on several projects, many being relatively small but essential repairs and improvements to the buildings on our estate, as well as a major project involving demolition of a barn and a new build cottage. From the start, I was reassured by the careful discussions, good advice offered and sensible planning involved, as well as the response to all my phone calls and emails with further visits and discussions taking place as warranted throughout the projects. I am already planning the next project where I hope to work again with the Saunders Brothers team. And, of especial note, the cottage was built under budget and completed before we expected!”
